Employment opportunities & proposals to provide jobs to locals.
The regeneration project of Royal Albert Dock has a vision of creating a variety of jobs in both the tertiary and quaternary sector
Type of jobs this developments aims to create

Through the Grade II heritage buildings, including the Central Offices (to be used as a new museum & art gallery documenting the history of the Royal Albert Docks) and the Gobbins Offices (to be used as a new hotel with restaurant & bar). Additionally, new hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes to be opened throughout the development will encourage tourism & and employment.

A new nursery and primary school, as well as a secondary school and sixth form college, will be built to the east of the development. The aim is to encourage education in the London Borough of Newnham. The implementation of this sector will also create jobs in education, whilst boosting the local economy. Furthermore, the area will host a new campus and student accommodation of the University of East London.

The mixed-use buildings within the development will host healthcare businesses such as opticians, GPs and dentist practices to be opened on the ground floors.

With reduced demand for office spaces as a result of COVID-19 pandemic (which consequently caused a rise in working from home), less office spaces will be built. However, these premises will offer job opportunities in sectors such as ICT, Financing & Legal Services.

New jobs to be created through the new shops and supermarkets to be located at the ground floor of the mixed-use buildings.

Shops in the mixed-use buildings will also host housing estate agents.
Proposals to ensure that jobs only go to local people
The London Borough of Newnham needs to have council policies in mandating that at least 90% jobs in the Royal Albert Dock are taken by people who currently live in the borough.

This policy will ensure that the high unemployment levels the borough will be substantially reduced.
